PebbleCreek Kare Bears
MISSION AND SERVICES
In a community where many of us have our friends and relatives elsewhere, we may find ourselves in occasional need of some type of assistance. It is comforting to know there are people who care and will reach out to us.
Kare-ing Neighbors, Inc., doing business as (dba) Kare Bears, is a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization of PebbleCreek volunteers who are concerned about the welfare of their neighbors in the community. The main purpose of the organization is to assist and support residents who are ill, recuperating from illness, surgery or hospitalization, dealing with the loss of a loved one, or caring for a spouse or a loved one. Kare Bears volunteers are not a substitute for trained caregivers or healthcare professionals.
We are a "neighbors helping neighbors and the community" organization. Anyone who resides in PebbleCreek is automatically eligible for Kare Bears’ services.
The following services are offered at no charge to PebbleCreek residents:
"Kare Bears Presents" is offered every fourth Wednesday in September and October as well as January through June at 11:00 am in the Eagle's Nest Ballroom. Following a short opening, a knowledgeable health and wellness speaker presents timely information on topics relevant to the well-being of PebbleCreek residents. This event is free along with light refreshments provided by Kare Bears volunteers. No reservations are needed.
Volunteers assist in providing the temporary loan of medical equipment and aides, such as wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, canes, and knee scooters.
Volunteer drivers, who are licensed and insured, provide transportation to temporary non-emergency and therapeutic medical appointments.
Volunteers who are trained to process requests for medical equipment and drivers as well as to to provide community resource information operate the Kare Bears House at 15383 Cheery Lynn Road (on the Eagle’s Nest side).
The house contains a Directory of Services that includes resource information about services for PebbleCreek and the greater Phoenix area. Included in the directory are helpful websites from all over the country that offer support, products, and services. This document is also available online at www.karebears.org, in the Tuscany library, and at the Eagle’s Nest front desk.
Kare Bears volunteers sponsor an Annual Health & Wellness Fair, flu and pneumonia shots clinic, wellness screenings, blood drives, and many other health and wellness services.
Kare Bears assists in providing AEDs* where a need is identified within the PebbleCreek. Community. (*Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/Automated External Defibrillator). Certified trainers conduct AED/CPR training sessions for PebbleCreek residents and HOA employees.
Kare Bears volunteers also provide the following services:
Coordinators serve as a liaison between PebbleCreek residents and Kare Bears services.
Volunteers deliver the PebbleCreek Source Books.
Volunteers staff and organize "Share Bears", a group for super seniors and the physically challenged, providing bingo play and snacks every Friday.
NOTE: As an organization of volunteers, we are NOT trained professional caregivers. We are not permitted or trained to lift or transfer patients, or to provide medical treatment or therapy of any kind, or to dispense medications.
