Pill Reminders and Dispensers

Do you have a problem remembering to take medications or, perhaps, forget and then take a double dose? This is not uncommon due to busy schedules or a forgetful mind.  For this reason, I did some research and discovered a few websites that offer pill reminders and would like to share that information with you.

Frankly, I was a bit overwhelmed by the many choices available and it does take some  research to discover what will be the best reminder for your needs. If you are on the go, you might consider vibrating watches, multi-alarm pocket pill timers, or vibrating pagers.  These are just reminders that you need to take your pills.  Other pill reminders come with alarms and include organizers and pill dispensers. Some are for home use only and others can be used in your travels as they take up much less space.

One of the sites that I found helpful is www.epill.com, 1-800-549-0095.   This site appears to have the widest range of products and many of them have been featured in AARP Magazine, Wall Street Journal, etc.  One product, called the e-pill Multi-Alarm PLUS Pill Timer Pillbox, organizes your daily pills, and reminds you with a loud alarm up to 37 times per day. It has a unique “missed pill” feature and a large capacity slide out pill tray (seven compartments) with safety lock. No reset is required as it re-sets automatically every midnight. To give you an idea of cost, this particular product is $49.95 with free shipping and no sales tax.  Great for travel and at home.

Another site, www.aekmarketingco.com, 1-888-292-0005, has a product called “MedCenter Monthly Medication Dispenser.  It simplifies complicated doses and has a talking alarm clock/calendar that reminds patients to take their medications.  There are 31 pillboxes with 4 compartments each.  Audible alerts remind you of the date and time of the dose until a special alarm acknowledge button is pressed. Cost of this item is $54.95.

Quality Life Products, www.qlpllc.com, 623-694-3004, is a local company that rents out a couple of sophisticated systems which are geared for those who have complex medication regimens, for non-compliant patients or Alzheimer’s patients.

1. The MedReady Automated Medication Dispenser has a carousel pill tray with 28 compartments. When the alarm sounds, the tray rotates allowing access to the medication in the next compartment. Maximum # of doses per day is 4.   Internet monitoring is available for family members and clinicians.

2. The top of the line MD.2 Automated Medication Dispenser holds up to 60 doses and is capable of dispensing up to 6 times a day.  It provides multiple reminders and alerts to signal medication times including voice and text messages and a visual light.  It features a locked cabinet, assuring the security of the medications. It has a built-in monitoring capability and is directly connected via a phone line to the Support Center that has trained personnel 24/7.

These are just a few of the many pill reminders and automatic dispensers available. Take time to check out other sites for information and price comparisons.
