Biography

I am a native of New York City, where I attended Stuyvesant High School, a specialized public school for mathematics and science. I earned my B.A. in Computer Science and Mathematics from New York University, and my Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Duke University.

My professional career was spent on the faculty of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana, the number one undergraduate engineering school in the country, where I taught computer science for 40 years. I served as the department chair of Computer Science and Software Engineering for 13 of those years. During my tenure there I was able to spend three sabbaticals overseas, living in New Zealand for one year, splitting another year between Sweden and Japan, and my final sabbatical year in Germany.

My wife, Norma, and I are committed to serving our communities. We each spent 30+ years as volunteers with the Big Brother Big Sister organization. In Terre Haute, I served on the Board of Directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Vigo County, serving two terms as President. After retirement we moved to PebbleCreek in the fall of 2022. Joining Kare Bears was a no-brainer! Norma is also a volunteer at Kare Bears, working in the office a few times each month.

We love to travel and have visited all seven continents. In 2027 we will fulfill one of my last bucket list items – an around the world cruise.
